Not In My Name

Verse 1

The dogs say, let's play a game,

We don't care who wins, it's all the same

Let's play for a bowl of rice,

Now throw the dice.

We call it self-defence

even if it makes no sense

Love to see our flags unfurled,

After all we rule the world.

Pre-Chorus

And the dogs cry war war,

we want meat. We need to eat

The flag flies,

another soldier boy dies,

a mother cries,

a thousand lies.

Chorus

And people cry No more, not in my name.

The dogs play their game but not in my name.

But Not in my name (Not in my)

Not in my name (Not in my)

Verse 2

You killed our kin in the destruction of towers.

A thousand tombs, Death without flowers.

As towers fall righteous anger flows,

dogs will feed their greed overflows.

The dogs are free to fly their drones

into other people's homes,

they don't need any alibis,

Free to tell their lies,

Chorus

And people cry No more, not in my name.

The dogs play their game but not in my name.

But Not in my name (Not in my)

Not in my name (Not in my)

Bridge

All we have is greed and need for retribution.

too early and too late for a solution.

You killed our kin, now we're coming for yours.

It's why we send a gunship to your shores

[solo]

Chorus

And people cry No more, not in my name.

The dogs play their game but not in my name.

But Not in my name (Not in my)

Not in my name (Not in my)

Not in my name (Not in my)

Not in my name (Not in my)

Not in my name (Not in my)

Not in my name (Not in my)

thoughtful, melancholic, airy, A laid-back rock song, Tempo is constant, ESSENTIAL: Vocal must feature a British English accent, Male lead vocal is mid-range, whispered, not high or low, Female backing vocal adds beautiful harmonies and melodic supporting lines, Vocal harmonies throughout by a trio of backing singers: male tenor, female alto and soprano, A distinct uplift in energy from the verse to the chorus, Bridge is quiet and whispered, Electric piano is the main instrument, high and upfront in the mix, playing jazz-style fills and arpeggios, All instruments should sound like jazz players doing session work-tasteful, restrained, soulful, Saxophone contributes raw, honest fills, Electric guitar playing jazz inspired clean licks, Drums are simple, minimal, dry, and intimate-no reverb, echo, rattle, or hi-hat, Towels on drums, cushion in bass drum, Bass is warm, clean, fingerstyle with muted notes and a jazz feel, Groove is steady and spacious, strictly a steady 4/4 time, no swing

The dogs say, let's play a game, We don't care who wins, you see, they all die in the end, Let's play for a bowl of rice, now throw the dice. And the dogs cry war war, we want meat. And people cry No more, not in my name. Dog says we want to play the old game. The people say not in my name. The dogs don't care how many die, we want blood they cry, The money flows, greasy palms get plied, the missiles fly, the game goes on.

You killed ours so we pay you back with the destruction of towers. Death without flowers. As towers fall, the dogs are having a ball, righteous anger flows, it doesn't matter how low they have to go, dogs will kill, dogs will feed their greed overflows.

A new dog rises, desperate to wield their power, revenge for the tower. Payback for the shower of bombs, the creation of a thousand tombs, death of a village and now we pillage.

We're all living in the shadow of possibility, of what could be. The tree of life has died and all that remains is our greed, the need for retribution. Both too early and too late for a solution.

The dogs say give us revenge, we want to avenge the deaths of our fathers, mothers, sons and daughters, You killed our babies, now we're coming for yours. It's why we send a gunship to your shores and call it self-defence without pretence. Please don't think of it as an offence, we have confidence even if it makes no sense but the dogs are free to fly their drones into other people's homes, you are the enemy after all, we don't need any alibis, we're free to tell our lies, we love to see our flags unfurled, after all we rule the world.

The dogs play their game but not in my name.

The flag flies, another soldier boy dies, a mother cries, a thousand lies.

Not in my name.

Edited version 25th April

The dogs howl let's play a game

They don't care who wins

the game's the thing

Win or lose it's all the same

When the blood flows, it makes them sing

A wager for a bowl of rice

now throw the dice

And the dogs howl for blood and war

their battle cry.

The people plead, No more, not in our name,

Dogs say we want to play the game of blood and death, the oldest

greased palms, missiles fly

The game continues through the endless night.

towers fall, the dogs delight,

Righteous anger takes full flight.

A new hound ascends

blood lust knows no bounds,

bombs fall like rain, a thousand new graves,

The death of another village, yet to be avenged

Living in the shadow of what might be,

The tree of life felled,

The dogs demand vengeance, for kin lost in the fray,

You slew our infants, now yours will pay.

Thus, we dispatch a warship to your bay,

You see its really just self-defence, this is the modern way.

We have faith, even if it lacks sense,

But the dogs are free to breach your fence.

You are the foe, after all, we need no guise,

We're free to spin our web of lies.

We love to see our banners unfurled,

After all, we govern the world.

Regrettable to have to die, but we have a scheme,

The dogs play their game, but not in my name.

The banner soars, another soldier weeps,

A mother mourns, a thousand deceits.

Not in my name.
